Sacralisation of dorsals

Hey all!

I was just wondering: what is the bigger picture considering the
sacralisation of dorsals into the sacrum?

I know it has something to do with adding support and strenght to the ilium,
or I could be even mistaken in that, but is this because of strain put on
the ilium because of the enlargement of leg muscles?

Any comments or answers are welcome, I'm just very interested in it right
now, because you observe it in a lot of families of dinosaurs, both
carnivorous as herbivorous.
