Burpee Tyrannosaur Symposium
This is my 1st time posting on the list so please bear with me. My name
is Scott Williams; I am the Collections Manager at the Burpee Museum of
Natural History in Rockford. You are probably familiar with the museum
through our popular PaleoFest events or perhaps because of our mystery
tyrannosaurid Jane. We have two big events coming up relatively quick
and I was hoping to get some help getting the word out about them. On
Wednesday, June 29th, 2005 our Jane: Diary of a Dinosaur exhibit gets
unveiled as well as the mystery surrounding Jane's real identity. This
will hopefully solve the great Nano/baby T.rex debate, although after
the impromptu meeting in the collections of BHI last weekend, I kind of
doubt it. Jane is now mounted and she looks awesome!!
Also, to supplement the opening of the exhibit, we will be hosting (in
conjunction with Northern Illinois University) a symposium on the
tyrannosaur family. "The Origin, Systematics and Paleobiology of
Tyrannosauridae" will be held at the Clock Tower Inn during the weekend
of September 16th, 17th, and 18th. We currently have 30 tyrannosaur
researchers coming to present on their recent findings. Obviously this
will be a premier event and should be of interest to many
paleontologists and dinosaur/fossil enthusiasts.
For more information please check out www.burpee.org. Or if you have
any questions about Burpee, Jane, or our collections I will be happy to
answer what questions I can.
By the way, (this is for Dr. Carpenter and Peter L.), thanks for
inviting me to 100 Years of T.rex, it was great, I thoroughly enjoyed
the experience.
