2nd Circular - Dinos of NM

Second Circular
Dinosaurs of New Mexico Symposium

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science (NMMNH) is
pleased to announce the first "Dinosaurs of New Mexico" symposium, to be
held at the NMMNH on Saturday, April 29, 2000. Talks and posters are
scheduled to run from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM in the old Dynamax Theater in the
main building, with a guided tour of the collections following the
talks. There will be a break for lunch. Scheduled speakers include NMMNH
curators Spencer G. Lucas and Thomas E. Williamson, as well as Alex Downs,
Tracy Ford, Andrew B. Heckert, Adrian P. Hunt, David K. Smith, Robert
M. Sullivan, Douglas G. Wolfe. Other presenters include NMMNH preparator
Jerald D. Harris, Ronald and Rodney Peterson and Brian Curtice.
New Mexico is unique among western states in having a rich record
of Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous dinosaurs, and dinosaur body and
trace fossils are known from most parts of the state. The history of
dinosaur paleontology in New Mexico dates back more than 100 years and
includes such famous paleontologists as E.D. Cope, Barnum Brown,
C.W. Gilmore, F.v. Huene, E.H. Colbert, and C.H. Sternberg, among many
others.
We solicit contributions on all aspects of dinosaur paleontology
in New Mexico for a proceedings volume that will be published as a New
Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science Bulletin and distributed to
all registrants upon publication. In addition to papers detailing original
research on New Mexico's dinosaurs, the proceedings volume will include
summary papers on Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous dinosaurs of New
Mexico and a bibliography of New Mexico's dinosaurs spanning over 120
years of research. Papers are due at the meeting. For additional
information, including NMMNH Bulletin Instructions to Authors, contact
Andrew B. Heckert or Dr. Spencer G. Lucas at the following addresses.
