Re: Furthering Self Study

Not _that_ old; *Amargasaurus* ain't a crone to the
lit, but unless you can read Espanol, her book will be
closed except for interpretations. *Giganotosaurus*
was described only four years ago (and briefly) in
_Nature_, and enough is actually known to provide a
comparative osteology, should anyone take up the task.
Current work in Argentina by Coria and Currie may shed
more light on this animal, or a relative.

<Apparently not much is told about them in the
layman's sources. I'd love to know about unusual
dinosaurs such as shunosaurus, which as I understand
actually have a tail club at the end.>

For this one you'd have to check out the Chinese
literature, McIntosh' (1990) chapter in _Dinosauria_
on Sauropoda, and the recent paper by Wilson and
Sereno, on describing sauropod phylogeny, in _JVP
Memoirs_.

<On the other hand, creatures that I thought were
already known from way back, such as longisquama, I
found out on this list has not even been described
yet.>

It's been described, as I think you are aware of by
now.

<What's with this?>

Progress, science marches on, and that all these new
discoveries are far more complete than the first few
named dinosaurs from England and mainland Europe!

-----

  Incidentally, *Beipiaosaurus*, another recent
discovery, if quite fairly complete, missing only much
of the tail, neck and back, skull, part of the
forelimbs and hindlimbs.
