Dinobird TV Week
Here are some highlights of U.S. national television
programming concerning dinosaurs, extinct and extant,
other prehistoric animals and evolution, from high art
to low trash and (hopefully) back again, all times
Eastern:
(My search didn't turn up the truly gripping "Life of
Birds" documentary, so check your local listings.)
Monday, August 9
Discovery Channel, 10:00pm (repeats 1:00am)
Dinosaurs Inside and Out
"Land of the Giants"
The habitat of dinosaurs.
Tuesday, August 10
AMC, 9:00am
The Beast from 20,000 Fanthoms
Frozen lizard a-go-go. Godzilla's inspiration.
USA, 2:00pm
Tammy and the T. rex
A teenager discovers that a mad scientist has
implanted her boyfriend's brain in the body of an
animatronic dinosaur. There are simply too many
punchlines. The mind reels. (Some viewers may wish
to just turn off the sound and stare at Denise
Richards like a mental patient for two hours.)
Thursday, August 12
TLC, 6:00am
Mother Nature
"Hummingbirds"
Strange little dinobirds profiled.
Discovery Channel, 9:00pm (rebroadcast midnight, and
Sunday at 3:00pm)
Prehistoric Sharks
Most lived in the water. Part of Discovery's
highest-rated programming time, "Shark Week!"
Friday, August 13
CBS-TV, 8:00pm
Kids Say the Darndest Things
"Darndest." This apparently has something about
dinosaurs in it. Don't shoot the messenger.
Saturday, August 14
History Channel, 8:00pm (rebroadcast midnight)
History's Lost and Found
Includes a segment on "a dinosaur fossil."
Darndest. Denise Richards. Hummingbirds. Another
week of hard science,
