Could this have possibly been _Architeuthis dux_, the
giant squid, an *extant* life form? Or could it be one
of those extinct giant squid known, predictably, only
from its (big) beak?

Fighting *three* giant eels?  So now eels are pack
hunters too.  It's a slippery slope, folks.
