Here are some highlights of U.S. national television programming
concerning dinosaurs, other prehistoric animals and evolution, all
times Eastern (as all times should be): the full spectrum, from high
art to low trash and back again!

        Monday, September 7

ENCORE, 1:20am (late night Sunday; oh brother)
        Clan of the Cave Bear
Huge, lanky, blonde Cro-Magnon chick falls in with some Neanderthals
and is resented by them for her evolution. Should be required
viewing
        in all physical anthropology courses.
Can't recall this actresses name, but it's HER at her absolute best!
:-)

        The History Channel, 6:00am
        The Mighty Mississippi
        "Born of the Ice Age"
Ice Age origins of the great river.

        Tuesday, September 8

        Travel Channel, 10:00pm
        Legends of the Isles
        "The Loch Ness Monster"
Scottish plesiosaur, or mosasaur, or log.

My relatives in Inverness assure me Nessy is much easier to see
after 6-8 ounces of Cutty Sark. Following the consumption of > 8 ounces of
Cutty Sark, seeing Nessie is VURTUALLY assured.

        Wednesday, September 9

        Travel Channel, 1:00am (blah blah)
        Legends of the Isles
        "The Loch Ness Monster"

        Sci-Fi Channel, 8:00am
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
        "Terror on Dinosaur Island"
Island inhabitants who use only acronyms when discussing dinosaurs,
many of them sporting impressive beards, frighten small children and
        others.

        Travel Channel, 3:00pm
        Legends of the Isles
        "The Loch Ness Monster"

        Friday, September 11

        ENCORE, 3:20am (late night etc.)
        Clan of the Cave Bear

        Sci-Fi Channel, 10:30am
        Ray Bradbury Theater
        "Tyrannosaurus rex"
Special effects wizard takes revenge on director. Sounds like the
fantasy of more than one person involved with more than one dinosaur
        movie project.

        Saturday, September 12

        The Learning Channel, 10:00am
        Great Books
"Beyond Genesis: The Origin of Species"
        Darwin's theories of evolution.

        A&E, 11:00am
        Biography International
        "Charles Darwin: Evolution's Voice"
A bio of Chuck. We almost had duelling Darwins this week; as it is,
we have a Darwin sandwich. Delish.

        Sunday, September 13

USA Network, 3:30am (need I say it?)
        Dinosaur Island
Airmen land of island inhabited solely by beautiful, kinda easy cave
women and carnivorous dinosaurs. Hey, who stole the keys to my
psyche?

This flick is NC-17. Everyone has sex, EXCEPT the dinosaurs!
The T.Rex is also flabby & rather punch drunk. :-)
        TBS, 6:00am
        The Last Dinosaur
Aging big-game hunter goes beneath the polar ice cap to hunt the
last
dinosaur, a tail-dragging Tyrannosaurus rex that, honestly, is about
the size of Godzilla. Has anyone actually CHECKED under the ice
cap?
        Might be worth it...

"Guy in rubber suit" tribute to Richard Boones's poor career choices
in his later years. He ultimately BONKS the rubber T. Rex on it's really
pliable noggin with a big rock. And Boone gets the girl, but she's a
Neanderthal! Of course, so was the writer of this script.

        History Channel, 8:00am
        History Showcase
"The Mammoth Site: After the Big Ones"
Hot Springs, South Dakota. The mammoths and the Dakota Dinosaur
        Museum too.

        Discovery Channel, 9:00am
        Bonehead Detectives of the Paleoworld
Children's program about paleontology. This epiode: "Flying
Fossils"
-- scientists debate the dinosaur origins of birds.

        Nixon: tripped by tapes
        Lewinsky: taped by Tripp
