Strange how your views dictate what you hear.  My view of GSA (
(I was not at SVP) was that there was nearly complete agreement
that the impact and extinction were tied.  On both land and in the
oceans primary productivity crashed--phytoplankton and land plants.

The extinction was dominant in food chains based on primary 
productivity, while animals able to feed in detritus based food
chains were more likely to survive.  As to dinosaurs, the land
plant change included strong extinction followed by disaster
floras.  It will be difficult to do much more with the land
record--it is far too sparce.  The marine realm really tells the
story.

It is about time for SVP to begin meeting with GSA and the rest
of the geologic and paleontologic community.
