CNN.com has a video on this entitled: "Fossils show 'Bird-like God of Western Desert'". Sorry, I cannot get the link to the vid - it's under the news of Gene Pitney's death, and Katie Couric's announcement that she's leaving NBC for CBS.

I didn't open the link. When I saw "Western Desert" and "God-like" in the same sentence, I just assumed the story was about Dick Cheney. :-o

You know, I get it when authors don't want to create new clade names because the clade's especially provisional, or just to protect against an abundance of names,

I think that last horse bolted a long time ago.

but Yanornithiformes, Yanornithidae and Songlingornithidae already exist. At SVP 2002, I think Clarke used Yanornithidae for the clade.

Songlingornithidae has priority over Yanornithidae; but I don't know if this matters any more. Otherwise, using Yanornithiformes would bypass the issue of nomenclatural priority. All of these clades (Yanornithiformes, Yanornithidae, Songlingornithidae) have yet to be defined.
