An additional complicating factor is that there is a change in
depositional environments within the Hell Creek. The lower part is
predominantly sandstones, with the upper part consisting primarily of
paleosols.
Does this mean that the lower Hell Creek Fm contains many fossils that were
swept in from far away, while the fossils in the upper Hell Creek Fm are
more likely all autochthonous?
