Autapomorphies = derived characters unique to itself (auto- = self).

Well... derived character states that the clade in question has evolved at its origin. It does not matter if the same character states evolved convergently in other clades. To tell us whether convergence happened, we need a phylogenetic analysis... Under parsimony, a feature is an autapomorphy if the two or more closest outgroups of the taxon in question lack it. Thanks for reminding me, Jaime!
