dependent* on his support, was your old man comfortably capable of 
getting off the ground unassisted?
       (I recently buried a grandfather who took up caving (spelunking 
in backwoods Americese) at 83. His arthritis was not evolutionarily 
relevant to his speleology, except in that insanity is hereditary - you 
catch it from his children.)
