exact ages of Bernissart quarry and I. anglicus
I am trying to find the actual age, at least stage and preferably level, of
the Bernissart Iguanodon quarry, based on radiometric or more likely
stratigraphicly diagnostic invert fossils (not on the presence of
iguanodontids). After
refering to a large number of publications (incl 2001 Geol. Beligica paper on
Belgian Cret. stratigraphy) and Euroresearchers have not been able to find a
date better than Hauterivian-Aptian, perhaps because the site cannot be better
dated.
Am also confused as to actual age of the holotype teeth of I. anglicus, which
Norman 1987 lists as from the Upper Tunbridge Wells Sands which is late
Valanginian, but Charig and Chapman 1998 list as from the Tilgate Forest Beds
(Tilgate Grit) which they list as Hauterivian, but a correspondent thought the
Tilgrate grit is from the Lower Tunbridge Wells Sands which is mid Valanginian.
