Because they found it out 10 years ago.

Look up the work of Adachi, Kosher, and Cantatore, and you'll see that it's 
long been known that animals with faster metabolisms have a higher rate of 
evolution at the level of DNA (after correcting for body mass).  Alas, it 
doesn't solve all problems associated with the 'molecular clock' hypothesis. 
 We're a long, long way from any Grand Unifying Theory of molecular 
evolution.
