Oh nuts---most of the other stuff I've been hearing puts the fleshy nostrils 
toward the back of the nares (near the eyes, that is).  Although I may have 
misunderstood HP Holtz.

Azhdarchids? (I realize nostrils probably varied among pterosaurs, so I should 
clarify that I am wondering about azhdarchids, specificially)

That _is_ cool, and it always strikes me as weird when I see a close up of a 
crane or vulture head.  Might non-avian dinosaurs have had similar nostrils?
