avian theropod vigilance behavior
Does anyone know the current whereabouts of avian
theropod scholar Andrew F. Boysen? He did a 1998 M.S.
thesis at Indiana University, The thermal environment
and its infuence on avian vigilance, a 2001 paper on
the same subject, nothing more. The thesis was never
deposited with the Indiana University Library, alas.
It is a subject matter of importance to all who
extrapolate from ongoing processes to infer the
behaviour of pre-K/T dinosaurs in similar biozones.
I also recommend an older paper, but equally
interesting:
William Hodos & J.T. Erichsen, 1990. Lower-field
myopia in birds: an adaptation that keeps the ground
in focus. Vision Research 30(5):653-657
One wonders, re: vision, if the feathered theropods
had similar constraints, this perhaps explaining slow
flapping flight.
