NEW ARCHAEOPTERYX (the journal)
On the request of Darren Naish, I'm forwarding this message to the list:
Hi Tim
Re: _Gypaetus_, did you know that they also (supposedly)
kill ibex and chamois by swooping down on them and
harassing them until they fall to their deaths. This is sort of
anecdotal but some sources regard it as a truism. More
interesting is that they have been reported trying to do the
same thing with human climbers! [That's gotta suck - TW]
New papers out that will be of interest to some...
Kemp, R. 2001. Generation of the Solnhofen tetrapod
accumulation. _Archaeopteryx_ 19, 11-28.
Carey, J. R. & Adams, J. 2001. The preadaptive role of
parental care in the evolution of avian flight.
_Archaeopteryx_ 19, 97-108.
The latter is the 'brooding comes first' idea: argues that the
evolution of beaks, feathers, wings etc all evolved to help
theropods become better nest builders and carers of eggs
and chicks. [This paper has already been mentioned on the list - TW]
I have a policy of no longer sending message to DML, so
could you pass this info (about the refs) on for me please?
Later, have to deal with my JVP abstract now...
