RE: Arboreality and Utility of Climbing: Not the Same Thing





For those who didn't go to the SVP or missed the talk, from what I gathered
from the talk (which was the best talk at the SVP, IMHO) he really didn't
relate it to the evolution of flight, just that it was a means to explain
how the avian and non-avian theropods 'could' get up into a tree. He really
shied away from saying that it was 'the' means of doing it (or some such).
It was up to the 'paleontologist' (he isn't one, by his account) in putting
two and two together. I don't remember him saying anything as in where or
when his paper will appear, but I'm sure that it'll be one sought out by
many a number of us.

I talked to several paleontologist about the talk and they all agreed he was
onto something and it'd help explain a lot of things.
