Fake and Smithsonian

I recently heard something on the news about the archeorapter being a fake 
(either on purpose or by accident), the one that came from China, and faintly 
remember reading someting about it in an e-mail. Was this just discussed? If 
so, where in the archives of the DML would I find it? And my friend was 
mumbling something during lunch today about the Smithsonian buying a T rex? 
Is this true or is he just crazy? Thanks.
