Confuciusornis sanctus
I have some questions I would like to ask about Confuciusornus sanctus, the
beaked bird from Liaoning.
1) I've read that, because the paleontologists in Liaoning have discovered many
C. sanctus fossils together, they assumed that the birds live in colonies. Is
there any behavioral information past that? That is, do we know of male:female
ratios or have any fossils of the actual nest structures? Probably not, but I
wish to ask anyway.
2)From the shape of the bird's beak, I assume it's a seed-eater. Am I correct?
3)C. sanctus has very small feet, but large talons on its hands. Does this
indicate that it used its hands to perch or, like terns (which also have small
feet) it rarely perched at all?
4) I know that there are many species of Confuciusornis, but only know anything
about C. sanctus and C. dui. What of the others?
5) It would be nice if anyone could give me the URLs of some good webpages that
focus on this genus, as well, perhaps, as other Liaoning avians.
Thanks
Dan
