About the angle of view

In palaeo-pictures, terms are used such as lateral, dorsal, antero-dorsal etc, to indicate the angle you are viewing them, but no one ever gives a key as to what they all mean.  Eventually one becomes familiar with most, but there are a few holes in my current repertoire I would like to fill:

Dorsal view is the translation for aerial view, right?  Is this transferrable to images of skulls (which, of course, have no dorsal)?
What is the term for underside view?
A front view on skulls with beaks is often referred to as 'rostral', when they are absent is this known as 'premaxillary' or 'narial' view and if not why not?
I heard a rumour that technically lateral only refers to the right side and that there is another term used for the left, is this true and if so, what is that term?

Thanks in advance,
