Dinosaur TV Week

Here are some highlights of U.S. national television
programming concerning dinosaurs, other prehistoric
animals, and the scientific discussion of evolution,
from high art to low trash and (theoretically) back
again, all times Eastern (check local listings to
confirm):


Monday, February 21

History Channel, 10:00am 
History's Lost and Found
Includes segment on dinosaur skeleton.


Friday, February 25

American Movie Classics, 10:30pm (rebroadcast 2:00am)
Godzilla
The original Japanese movie, with Raymond Burr
crowbarred in for American consumption.  A knockoff of
an American movie, it nonetheless was pretty creepy,
probably because most Japanese at that time still had
vivid memories of something terrible and unstoppable
coming to their land with the darkness.  Classic
brooding music and the signature Godzilla roar -- far
and away the best of these movies.

American Movie Classics, 6:00am
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
And then there's ... this.


Sunday, February 27

Discovery Channel, 9:30am
Bonehead Detectives of the Paleoworld
Kid's show about paleontology.  This episode: "The
Headless Dinosaur," dinosaurs of the southern
hemisphere.

Also check this week for the pay-per-view premiere of
Lake Placid, horror/comedy about a giant crocodile in
a Maine (yes, Maine) lake, pursued by, among other
people, a paleontologist (Bridget Fonda).  It's not as
funny as it thinks it is, but it can be clever now and
then, especially Fonda.  My favorite scene -- the
bear.  Gives you some idea of what a really large
Cretaceous croc may have been like (relevance,
relevance).
