Dinosaur TV Week

Here are some highlights of U.S. national television
programming concerning dinosaurs, other prehistoric
animals, and the scientific discussion of evolution,
from high art to low trash and (theoretically) back
again, all times Eastern (check local listings to
confirm):

Monday, February 14

American Movie Classics, 6:00pm
Bringing Up Baby
Heiress's dog steals paleontologist's bone.  Guess
what kind of bone it is?  Hepburn and Grant "screwball
comedy" classic from the 30's.


Tuesday, February 15

PBS, 9:00pm (time and day may vary)
NOVA
Mystery of the First Americans
Paleoanthropologists investigate.


Friday, February 18

History Channel, 8:00pm (rebroadcasts midnight,
4:00am)
History's Lost and Found
Includes segment on dinosaur skeleton, apparently.


Saturday, February 19

American Movie Classics, 6:00am
Godzilla vs. King Ghidora
George Orwell is smiling somewhere -- a Japanese movie
from the 90's starring people in rubber monster
outfits is an "American" movie "classic."  This one
has lots of dopy ripoff material from the TERMINATOR
series, not exactly cerebral in itself.  Orwell would
also be pleased to know that this "American" movie
classic features lots of thinly veiled American
bashing.  By the way, Godzilla's "dinosaur" origins
are plumbed in this film. The one positive point, if
you can call it that, is that the Godzilla design is a
great improvement over the 60's rubber suit.  Overall,
though, this is for those moments when Ipecac just
isn't strong enough.


Sunday, February 20

Discovery Channel, 9:30am
Bonehead Detectives of the Paleoworld
Kid's show about paleontology.  This episode: "Mystery
of the Neanderthals."  Early humans are apparently
highly "mysterious."
