US airs Attenborough's Life of Birds
We American lot are pleased as punch to learn that "The Life of Birds with David
Attenborough" will begin airing here in the colonies (USA) beginning on Tuesday,
July 20, 1999 (or thereabouts) on public television stations. While the series
will spend an inordinate amount of air time on living avialans, the first
episode
will feature the origin of birds, with coverage of _Archaeopteryx_. _San
Francisco_ magazine describes the first installment thus:
"'To Fly or Not to Fly' travels backward 150 million years to revisit a time
when
some birds abandoned flight and began to walk Earth on foot."
Either the above statement garbles the content of the program, or it's going to
be more controversial than I expected!
