Shanghai Customs Seizes Smuggled Dinosaur Egg Fossils

SHANGHAI (June 23) XINHUA - 
Customs officials in Shanghai recently seized 53 fossilized dinosaur
eggs hidden in a cargo container labeled as "old furniture". 

Customs officials at the Waigaoqiao Bonded Zone in the Pudong New
Development Zone found the fossils earlier this month in 130- odd pieces
of classical furniture. 

They also seized close to 1,000 cultural relics, antiques and curios
dating back to as early as the Neolithic Age. The Chinese government
strictly prohibits removal of related items from the country. 

Customs officials said the container was shipped by a foreign trade
company in east China's Zhejiang Province on behalf of a foreign
national and was bound for the United States. 

They declined to identify the name and nationality of the individual in
question and noted that the case is still under investigation.
