Upon This Rock Pt.2 and PDW

I haven't heard from anyone yet, but so far the earliest trade book solely
devoted to dinosaurs I've been able to discover is _The Dinosaurs, A Short
History of a Great Group of Extinct Reptiles_by William E. Swinton, London,
Thomas Murby and Co., 1934. There used to be a copy of this at the
Minneapolis Public Library when I was a kid. It was illustrated with
photographs of sculptures (by Vernon Edwards?) in minature natural settings
that were really quite nice.
The other contender would be W.D.Matthew's _Dinosaurs_,1915, a publication
of the American Museum of Natural History and probably only available from
the museum.
This leaves a rather large gap in the 1920's...
Greg Paul's _Predatory Dinosaurs of the World_has again been lamented as
out of print here on the list. Have hope. To quote from his interview in
Prehistoric Times No.36, GSP says, "Currently I'm working on and finishing up
_Dinosaurs of the Air_, which is on the origin of birds, and the possible
loss of flight in some dinosaurs that were very closely related to birds.
That could be out via Johns Hopkins Press sometime late next year." Dan
Varner.
