Re: Horizon T-rex
The second Horizon T rex is an >actual cast< of the Stan Winston Studios
maquette sculpted by Mike Trcic for Jurassic Park the movie.
My source for this information was the very nice Japanese owner of
Horizon models himself. I've since seen the Stan Winston Studios
maquettes and verified this. My painted version of the JP T rex (with
added base) is here: http://www.flyinggoat.com/FGGdinopage1AA.html
The maquette was the original source for the geometry used to make the
computer T rex used in the movie. The detail is incredible as this
maquette was also to be scaled up to the 1 to 1 clay model the molds
were taking from for the animatronic. There was also a 1/5th maquette
used by Stan Winston but I haven't seen it commercially from any
company.
The Horizon JP Brachiosaur and the Velociraptor are also actual casts
straight from Stan Winston Studios orginal maquettes. I am not positive
about the Dilophosaur but it's probable. The Velicoraptor is the
heaviest detailed of these last three (with the most awkward pose
however), then the Dilophosaur, then the Brachiosaur coming in dead last
on detailing (it does stand about 4 feet tall however). The T rex is
superior to all the others.
Expect to pay over $100 for any of them-they all retailed well over
that.
