I don't see any reason you cannot go directly for a master's in
paleontology. Most universities that have a paleontolgoy degree offer it
through the Geology Department anyway. My own batchelor's is going to be
in Zoology (although I am almost a double major in Geology), and there is
apparently little or no difficulty with me applying to both South Dakota
School of Mines and the geology department at Texas Tech, providing that I
pick up the few courses I will be lacking in Geology as a graduate student
if I am accepted.
