a subfossil is used by some people to dessignate the dead animal category
from the previous post, namely anything not fully or partially remineralized.
of course if you follow that nomenclature then about 90% of the quaternary
fossils are subfossils, and 60% of pliocene, etc.  there are even 
triassic corals that would qualify as subfossils!
