Check again. Octopus and platypus are derived from Greek, so their Latin
plurals would not necessarily follow Latin rules. Just as the English plural
of "ox" is not "oxes" (adding -s or -es) but "oxen," because "ox" is a
derived Teutonic word, and the English plural of "polyhedron" is not
"polyhedrons" but "polyhedra," derived from Greek.
