It would be truly interesting to see Cameron's approach. He would have to
top Spielberg in the realism department. He's that kind of guy. For my
money, he is the more talented filmmaker.
There will be a JP III and it will be produced not directed by Spielberg.
Hopefully, whomever he hires will have creative license and it won't be a
Tobe Hooper/Poltergeist situation. It's highly unlikely that Spielberg
would hire Cameron because of his lack of budgetary concerns and the same
can be said of Ridley Scott. That's a damn shame really because the JP
material would truly get the hard-edge treatment it deserves and would no
doubt be better received by those aren't as forgiving as I am.
Maybe we could start a campaign to persuade Cameron to take on a "Raptor
Red" type of picture as an antithesis to Spielberg's LOST WORLD. I'm sure
he would relish the opportunity and he's going to need a big challenge now
that he's gone over-the-top with TITANIC. How fun would it be to have a
"Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom" approach, combined with ILM's CGI
dinosaurs and Winston's animatronics and Cameron's or Scott's no-nonsense
hard edge?!! LOST WORLD, as exciting as it is, would look like a cartoon in
comparison.
Anyone out there got Jim's ear?
