Re: Models + Dinosaur Society
In response to a comment about "what happened to The Dinosaur Society," we are
alive and well and granting a lot of money to dinosaur science. The Dinosaurs
of Jurassic Park exhibit is our most visible asset, and even though we publish
two terrific newletters (if I do say so myself!), they are not newsstand items
so you might not have heard of them. The Dino Times is a monthly newsletter
written for kids, parents, teachers, and other interested adults. Leading
paleontologists participate in the production of the newsletter every month.
It is probably the most timely newsletter on dinosaur discoveries out there--a
new dinosaur featured nearly every month. The Dinosaur Report, our other
newsletter, is a quarterly geared towards an adult readership that includes
educators and scientists. It includes news on Society activities and research
funded by our granting program, but also features articles on dinosaur art,
naming, new dinosaurs, and popularized versions of recent journal articles
written for us by the original authors. Case in point, Tom Holtz recently did
a piece for us on his tyrannosaur classifications. The Report fills a gap
between the scientific literature and the kiddy literature.
Anyone interested in getting these publications should contact the Society at
1-800-346-6366.
