RE: Archaeopteryx - sideline: crushed/fused specimens
The statement about this existing specimen makes me wonder when and if
paleontologists decide if it is worth trying to remove the bones from the
matrix on fossils that are somewhat crushed or scattered into a fused mass.
Do you wait to see if a better speciment that requires less difficult or risky
work?
If the bones are mixed up very badly, how much guesswork is involved on what
goes where once they've been removed?
