With the rather poorly foldable wings of pterosaurs, wouldn't dropping out
of a tree tend to imply that the critters were launching from the lowest
branch on the tree? Otherwise, I can just see them going whackedy, whack,
whack on the way down ? :-)

If perching on branches bipedally, a simple drop and fly seems
appropriate.
If it was a percher, then yes. But perching may have been the exception
rather than the rule for pterosaurs (if it happened at all).
