Phylogenetic Nomenclature Discussion
As announced about a month ago on this list, the International Society
for Phylogenetic Nomenclature (the society associated with the
PhyloCode), has a new bulletin board discussion forum:
http://www.phylonames.org/forum
Now that it's been up for a little while, some discussions have begun
that may be of interest to people on this list. Here's a sampling:
- "Unambiguous Dinosaurian Taxa" (an attempt to compile a list of taxa
without competing definitions)
<http://www.phylonames.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15>
- "Archosauria and Recommendation 11A" (how to define "Archosauria" in
compliance with the PhyloCode)
<http://www.phylonames.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12>
- "'Standard' Specifiers for Major [Amniote] Clades"
<http://www.phylonames.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6>
- "Apomorphy-based names, crown groups, etc." (includes much
discussion on the name "Aves")
<http://www.phylonames.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7>
I'd like to encourage everyone interested in phylogenetic nomenclature
to join (or at least check it out).
See (some of) you in a month!
