I am trying to locate papers on determining
the provenance of sediments in the Chinle Formation using mineralogy. Most
studies (like Stewart et al's USGS paper and Dubiel's studies) suggest
provenance indriectly through inferred stream flow directions (these streams
seem to be flowing off the early Mesozoic magmatic arc, these streams seem to be
flowing off the Uncomphagre highlands), but very few provide much in the
way of detailed mineralogical studies with the potential source rocks to
establish a more concrete tie. Does anyone know if such studies have been
done?
