Hello all,
Upon reading Lambert (1983), which is credited by papers like Apaldetti
et al. (2013)
Âas naming the sauropodomorph genus
Coloradisaurus, it does not seem to conform to the ICZN.
Coloradisaurus was intended as a replacement name for
Coloradia Bonaparte, 1978, which was preoccupied by the mothÂ
Coloradia Blake, 1863
.ÂHowever, Lambert gives no explicit indication that
Coloradisaurus is a new genus.
Here's the full text entry for Coloradisaurus, from pg. 102 of Lambert (1983):
"ColoradisaurusÂ("Colorados lizard") from northwest Argentina's Los Colorados rock formation had a shorter snout than Plateosaurus. Length: perhaps 13 ft (4 m). Time: Late Triassic."
The only hint that it is a replacement name for
Coloradia is a brief note in the index (pg. 251) which reads "
ColoradiaÂ=
Coloradisaurus". As far as I can tell this would fail Art. 13.1.3 and render
Coloradisaurus a
nomen nudum. Comments from those who know more about this than me would be appreciated.
