Re: [dinosaur] Longest sauropod rib
The Asian sauropod in Mike was thinking about is presumably
Huanghetitan ruyangensis, which has a dorsal rib 293 cm long (LÃ et
al. 2007), almost as long as the Supersaurus rib.
Mamenchisaurus sinocanadorum has a cervical rib 410 cm long (Russell &
Zheng 1993), surpassing even Sauroposeidon's 342-cm cervical rib
(Wedel et al. 2000).
As for potentially even larger ribs, Patagotitan apparently preserves
dorsal ribs, but their lengths and whether any are complete has not
been reported (Carballido et al. 2017). Based on the quarry map, it
looks like they're at least ~2.5 meters long. They'd be the best
approximation of Argentinosaurus ribs due to their similar size and
close phylogenetic relationship.
