The largest scylacosaurid therocephalian Julognathus crudelis gen. et sp. nov. is described based on materials from the middle Permian locality of Sundyr-1, Republic of Mari El, Russia. In the Sundyr tetrapod community, Julognathus occupied the niche of the largest predator, forming a trophic pair with a herbivorous tapinocephalian.
