Because it _is_ three separate words, that's why: nota, tesserae, raptor =
mark, mosaic stones, robber. As a way of expressing "predator with a mosaic of
features", it's a total failure.
While I'm already complaining about nomenclature, Nick Pharris has mentioned on
Mickey Mortimer's blog that *Hesperornithoides miessleri*, stated in the paper
to be named after the whole family, should have been *miesslerorum*.
Annoyingly, this is one of those cases where the ICZN (Articles 31â33) is not
clear on whether the misleading singular must be preserved forever or has
already been automatically corrected. (It is one of these two extremes,
however; there's definitely nothing optional about it, and nobody needs to â
or can â perform an additional nomenclatural act.)
