Unless they had a long ovipositor (a la 'Walking With Dinosaurs'), then at the
very least they would have
been able to squat down low enough to lay eggs. Allowing hard-shelled eggs of
that size to free-fall from
any height might have ended in disaster. If they could squat long enough to lay
eggs and rise again
successfully, then they may have been able to do so for longer periods in a
sitting or crouching position.
As for lying on their sides; I expect that would have been a bad idea for the
very largest of sauropods.
