In fact, Linnaeus is even the lectotype of *Homo sapiens*. Moreinformation here: http://iczn.org/content/who-type-homo-sapiens andthere: http://www.jstor.org/stable/4065043Besides, unless he had been some kind of immortal sparkly vampire(yuck!), Cope wasn't even born when Linnaeus died so he was and is stillnot eligible for lectotype.

Nope. The type specimen is Linnaeus, in his tomb in the cathedral of Uppsala. I 
don't remember when the ICZN published that Opinion, but it was several years 
ago in any case.
