Re: The Aerosteon paper

See also Brian Switek's blog at:
http://dinosaur.smithsonianmag.com/2008/11/06/bone-wars-in-the-
blogosphere/
and Paul Sereno's reply to that post.

One point that stirred up the bloggers was a supposed "quote":
(The following is from Brian's blog cited above.)

"Particularly perplexing was a quote from Paul Sereno, one of the scientists
who wrote the Aerosteon paper, who said âThe fossil [Aerosteon] provides the
first evidence of dinosaur air sacs, which pump air into the lungs and are
used by modern-day birds.â [emphasis added] "

Paul Sereno states (with emphasis) that he never said this, and that the
claim of "first evidence" does not appear in the _Aerosteon_ paper. The only
place that seems to appear is in the National Geographic story:
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/09/080929-new-dinosaur-missions.h
tml
and the words are not enclosed in quotation marks. While reporters do their
best, they sometimes misinterpret and misquote.
