SV: Are birds really smarter than non-avian dinosaurs?

Whether they were a separate species depends on the species concept, but
the
reason they died out seems to have been the Last Glacial Maximum, which
_also_ wiped out the *H. sapiens sapiens* population of Europe. We are
the
descendants of later immigrants from the Middle East.

Do you have any evidence for this? I am rather familiar with the late
Pleistocene fossil record, and while Central Europe was (perhaps)
depopulated, I've never noticed any discontinuity in southern Europe,
including southern France. There is certainly no noticeable gaps in the
C14 dates.
Incidentally the neanderthalers seems to have gone extinct well before
the LGM.
