I have some trouble with the statement below.  As any bird hunter knows, 
hunters are continually being harmlessly pelted by bird shot (formerly lead, 
now mostly steel I think [I stopped hunting some years ago] ).  As Greg Paul 
has repeatedly pointed out, small pellets like these slow quickly to 
terminal velocity and don't do damage when raining down.
