In Latin, _virus_ is a neuter, so the plural would be _vira_
For that it would have to be _virum_, which it isn't. _Virus_ is an
exception among the _o_-stems in -_us_ and declined like all others. Gender
has no impact on declension, it's the other way around (which in turn has
exceptions like _virus_).
(Nouns in -ium are normally also neuters,

with plurals in -ia.)
Which, confusingly enough, also holds for nouns and adjectives in -e, such
as _gastrale_.
