Phylogenetic nomenclature is neither cladistic nor an approach to 
classification. It's just defining places on the tree and tying labels to 
them. Of course, that's only applicable to reality if you have an idea of 
what the tree looks like, and the best way to find that out is cladistics, 
but it's not actually required.
