The issue of the student's believe is a subject non-grata on the DML, 
but I think it's fair to make a comment on schooling in general:  In 
higher education if someone does the work properly, other factors such 
as politics, belief, etc should not enter into whether or not a student 
deserves a degree.  This merit-based aphilosophical reward system is 
what separates higher education from, well, religious and political 
organizations.
