Post-mortem microwear is usually pretty easy to distinguish on teeth.
Taphonomic abrasion has a tendency to dampen true microwear "signals,"
whereas preparatory marks tend to stick out like a sore thumb under
the SEM. Mark Teaford has done quite a bit of work on this front.
