I meant to answer this, but maybe I didn't.

How does this fit in terms of time to the theory that the Siberian basalt 
flood eruption caused the end Permian extinction?

I know I just got the film, "The Day the Earth Nearly Died".   They 
apparently know to within a short period when the end Cambrian extinction 
happened; they've got it neatly mapped.

How do they know when the Siberian Traps happened?

Were the two events close together in time?

It does look like two events caused the end-Cretaceous extinction.
